What Potassium iodide GL Pharma is and what it is used for
Potassium iodide is used in the event of an atomic event or nuclear reactor accident to protect against radioactive iodine isotopes entering the thyroid gland.

In the case of a nuclear reactor accident, radioactive iodine is released. After exposure to it, radioactive iodine accumulates in the thyroid gland. The administration of non-radioactive iodine (eg, in the form of potassium iodide) before and during radioactive contamination prevents radioactive iodine from entering the thyroid gland.
